While reading Anthony Stevens book JUNG: A Very Short Introduction, I found some useful and interesting stuff that I could possibly incorporate as a background information for my TED talk.
-
Carl Jung comes from a family of medicine, theology, and spiritualism, which is probably where his interest in theology comes from
-
his father and mother didn't have the greatest marriage
-
his mother had a breakdown when he was 3 years old and was admitted into a hospital for many months
-
Jung developed a defensive attitude of emotional detachment because of his mother's absense
-
like most children that experience the loss of their mother, Jung became self-absorbed and self-reliant. However, unlike most cases, his independence was to an unusual degree.
-
he recalled being 'deeply troubled' by her absense and suffered nervous eczema and had terrible dreams
-
because of his withdrawn and self-reliant behavior, he didn't get along with his classmates because he wasn't exactly friendly
-
he felt as though he didn't belong
-
he isolated himself as much as possible, but he claimed to prefer being alone with his thoughts
-
'I played alone, daydreamed or strolled in the woods alone, and had a secret world of my own'
